@MOVIE INFO
Alice and Jack are lucky to be living in the idealized community of Victory, the experimental company town housing the men who work for the top-secret Victory Project and their families. The 1950's societal optimism espoused by their CEO, Frank--equal parts corporate visionary and motivational life coach--anchors every aspect of daily life in the tight-knit desert utopia. While the husbands spend every day inside the Victory Project Headquarters, working on the "development of progressive materials," their wives--
including Frank's elegant partner, Shelley--get to spend their time enjoying the beauty, luxury and debauchery of their community. Life is perfect, with every resident's needs met by the company. All they ask in return is discretion and unquestioning commitment to the Victory cause. But when cracks in her idyllic life begin to appear, exposing flashes of something much more sinister lurking beneath the attractive façade, Alice can't help questioning exactly what they're doing in Victory, and why. Just how much is Alice willing
to lose to expose what's really going on in this paradise?

DON'T WORRY DARLING REVIEWS
Sep 23, 2022
Some good technical aspects and a strong lead performance by Florence Pugh for Don't Worry Darling cannot overcome a weak, underdeveloped script.

Florence Pugh's solid performance isn't enough to save this mishmash of old ideas and themes that offer a lukewarm result. [Full review in Spanish]

Don’t Worry Darling is Pleasantville holding a rusty hatchet. Olivia Wilde just pushes all the chips in and gets a ferocious performance from Florence Pugh.
Sep 23, 2022
I'd certainly rather watch an ambitious film than an unambitious one. But Ms. Wilde's movie needs more discipline and less hallucination.
Sep 23, 2022
There's good stuff here, but when the film turns into something that feels like an overly long episode of Black Box, it begins to show its wear and tear.

Much of the satisfaction comes in the cast’s ability to sell the eerie, spooky premise as Pugh, who’s been ascending in her career for a couple of years now, delivers a performance that thoroughly captures the film’s tone.

If director Olivia Wilde’s 1950s-flavored thriller was game-changingly good, or even Showgirls bad, then the sordid firestorm surrounding the film could cement its place in the pop culture canon. Instead... it’s something stranger: fine.

Although the first 75 minutes of Don’t Worry Darling are passably entertaining, the final half-hour is so badly composed... that it destroys the meager goodwill generated by the earlier parts of the film.

This is what we take away: Florence Pugh is a star. She is luminous. This is her movie. She owes Wilde a lot because Pugh is a small woman who seems statuesque in “Don’t Worry Darling.” She holds the center of this film and never lets go.

… a devilishly fun cautionary tale.

The construct is familiar but none of it quite gels. Especially after you’ve seen the movie and start asking questions.

Perfectly serviceable slice of big screen weirdness. This slick psychological drama is a glossy, stylishly surreal thriller with something to say, featuring an endless array of gorgeous fashions and Florence Pugh on excellent form. What more do you want?
Sep 22, 2022
It’s the movie’s perspective that makes it worthwhile and while it does have its shortcomings, the movie itself makes for a much more interesting conversation than the tabloid drama surrounding it.

Don’t Worry Darling feels like an attempt at saying something profound, but it comes up terribly short.

There’s something interesting buried deep in this utopian mystery. But watching the Hitchcockian thriller without Hitchcock pulling the strings made me feel as if I didn’t give a spit.

Neither the craftsmanship nor the performances can disguise that this is a well-worn tale of feminist rebellion against male dominion, a retread aspiring to say something profound but proving to be hackneyed.

Beautiful cinematography and a few compelling performances make Don’t Worry Darling an entertaining joy ride with substance. Unfortunately, the ambitious film bites off more than it can chew, resulting in plot holes and an overstuffed third act.

While the film has something to say about gender politics and misogyny, it's not articulated well enough to distinguish itself from any number of other movies.

Middling and tedious, it aspires for meaning it never achieves and struggles to connect surreal imagery to its premise.
